Remit: The Business Committee
is responsible for seeking to ensure that
business brought before the Presbytery is competent; and proposing an
Order of Business which will ensure that all business will be dealt
with efficiently. It has three sub-committees, Presbytery Finance,
Nominations and Disciplinary Matters.
Presbytery Finance
Treasurer: Rev Alistair Cook
Remit: The Presbytery Finance
Committee deals only with the
Presbytery's finances including proposing an annual budget and the rate
of Presbytery dues.
Nominations
Convener: Rev Ritchie Gillon
Remit: The Nominations
Committee brings to the Presbytery the
names of persons whom it nominates to serve on Presbytery committees
and any other bodies on which the Presbytery is represented.
Disciplinary Matters

Remit: The Disciplinary
Matters Committee is an ad hoc committee which
will only be formed when required to deal with any matter of discipline
or a formal complaint against a minister. The Business Committee also
deals with any other matter remitted to it by the Presbytery and, on
occasions, matters which do not fall within the remit of any other
committee of the Presbytery.

Remit: Ministry deals with all matters relating to
recruitment, selection, training and oversight of the various ministies
of the Church: full-time ministry of word and sacrament, auxililary
ministry, diaconate, readership and parish asistance. It also
deals with matters relating to stipend, and with any matter referred to
the Presbytery by the General Assembly's Ministries Council. The
committee is responsible for matters relating to the appointment and
oversight of hospital, prison and industrial chaplains.

Remit: Stewardship and Finance
deals with all matters relating to congregational stewardship, from
encouraging stewardship in congregations to examining and attesting
congregational accounts to ensure that they comply with the General
Assembly's and OSCR regulations, and in setting the Ministry and
Mission contributions for each congregation in accordance with teh
formula set by the General Assembly's Board of Stewardship and Finance.
It also deals with matters referred to the Presbytery by
that Committee.

matters concerning church buildings and manses, from making
recommendations to the Presbytery concerning applications to carry out

Remit: Mission and Discipleship brings together the former National
Mission and
Congregational Development Committees. It deals with areas intended to
aid the
development of congregations, covering all aspects of Christian
education including Sunday School, youth, adult and elder
training. In addition, it may also deal with matters relating to religious education in schools. It deals
with matters referred to the Presbytery by the General Assembly’s
Mission and Discipleship Council.
This committee also oversees the implementation of the church’s
policies and practice
concerning safeguarding (child
protection) and arranges training courses for people working with
young
people to enable them to obtain the certification which is necessary
for
development of worship in
congregations and, on occasion, Presbytery services. In addition, it
deals with
the Church’s outreach in various forms locally and nationally,
dealing with
local initiatives in outreach, and keeping the Presbytery informed of
national
initiatives which may be relevant to the Presbytery.

Interests deals with those
areas in which the church engages
with the community both locally and nationally.
As well as bringing forward issues on which it feels the
Presbytery
should be proactive, it also deals with matters referred from the
General
Assembly’s Board of Social Responsibility and Committee on Church
and
Nation. In addition the Committee is
available to give support to two special projects within the Presbytery
– the
Inverclyde Family Contact Centre and the Paisley Christian Social
Action Centre
– as well as to give advice and support to any congregation(s)
running or
seeking to set up a centre.

Presbytery Plan Review
